Happy Release Day Eve
Hey Reader, Crystal here!
Welcome to Book Release Eve🧛♀️👋
First Things First!📖
It still doesn't feel real if I'm absolutely honest. Even though I have it sitting behind me on the shelf as we speak, I can hold the darn thing in my hands, and we're counting down the hours until it's available... It just doesn't feel real. People are going to actually read my work for the first time forever (I am humming that part of that Frozen song lol.)
I've spent most of my time over the last few weeks making content for the book release livestream and getting set up for this new era in my "career".
Part of why you are reading this today is for me to tell you two very important things.
1. I have a website now. www.crystalkeeslarofficial.com
2. Technically, Incarnate's Rise is going to be available at Now (October 15th at 8pm est if I scheduled this correctly lol https://books2read.com/Incarnates-Rise
Ready for this month's Cutting Room Floor Without Context?
Darian & Charles being… Well, them
I had to give some love to my boys Darian & Charles with this scene, though this is obviously just a small portion and I'm hoping to reuse it in some aspect in book 2, code named at present: Project Fall “This is stupid!” she yelled at him as the wooden stairs creaked behind her.
“That is because you are only moving the weapon and not your body.” Darian said as he stepped into view. “You are focusing on brute force. One of a vampire’s strengths is speed.” He glided his way to her side. “May I?” He extended his hand for her weapon.
She snatched up the staff and thrust it into his chest. “Be my guest.” She stormed toward the crate. She hauled herself onto the stack of lumber.
A smile curled at the corner of Charles’ mouth. “None of your magic tricks!” He challenged, then twirled the staff in front of him once.
“I do not require magic.” Darian clutched the staff behind his back. He glanced at Elizabeth. “Watch how he moves. You will quickly learn how predictable your opponent can be.“
Their dance began as Charles lunged forward, Darian already out of them as the metal clanged off concrete. It was like trying to catch rushing water, every time Charles tried to land a blow, Darian stepped clear. The staff vibrated in his hand as he struck the floor. Darian breezed past Charles and tapped him on the shoulder with the staff, taunting him. A frustrated Charles growled and attacked faster and faster, getting sloppier each time. The air heated around the pair as blows hammered down into places Darian had been milliseconds before. Metal whistled faster and louder as the fighting stopped being orderly and became more primal.
Kyra sat down on the stairs, ducking down to watch the fight. “Talk about playing with your opponent.” She chuckled from her place on the middle step. “He’s waiting for Charles to get tired.” She rested her head on her hands.
Elizabeth turned to look at her sister, then back to the fight. Sure enough, Charles panted heavily, glaring daggers at Darian. Darian chuckled and evaded another blow, spun and prodded him in the back.
“Oh, come on!” Charles snapped.
A cocky smirk crawled up Darian’s cheek, and he moved again; with one fluid movement, he brought his staff crashing down on the back of Charles’ massive head. CRACK!
“Fuck!” He howled, rubbing his head.
Darian turned his back on Charles and regarded Elizabeth. “So, what was the lesson?”
“Vampires are faster than wolves?” Elizabeth asked.
“Precisely,” Darian said with a cocky sneer.
Charles growled and dropped the staff, leaping forward like a coiled spring. He landed on Darian, pinning him face down with his clawed hand on his skull. Charles smashed Darian hard against the concrete. “Vampires are cockier than wolves too,” he snarled, standing upright, helping Darian to his feet.
“You have speed, and fighting with speed means being patient,” Darian said. “Let your opponent do all the work. Then when you have an opening -take it without hesitation.” He brushed himself off and strolled over to the crate, inspecting the different weapons. “That is, at least when you are fighting a larger, slower opponent.” He shot Charles a taunting glare. “If your opponent is as fast or faster, you must adapt.”And Now for your non-doctor recommended monthly(ish) dose of Aza the Archfey
